On June 23, the China Industrial Internet Research Institute held a seminar to communicate with communication operators, Internet companies, and traditional manufacturers.
"The Central Economic Work Conference has promoted the high-quality development of manufacturing industry as the first of the seven major tasks of this year. It clearly proposes to increase the technological transformation and equipment renewal of the manufacturing industry, accelerate the commercial pace of 5G, and accelerate the artificial intelligence and industrial Internet. Construction of new infrastructure such as the Internet of Things. Xu Xiaolan, dean of the China Industrial Internet Research Institute, said at the seminar that 5G time-sensitive network technology, high-frequency and multi-antenna technology, network slicing technology and edge computing technology will become the driving industry. The key enabling technology for the Internet booming, the Industrial Internet will become the main battlefield for 5G commercial use.
5G technology features meet industrial Internet needs
5G has been initially deployed and applied in the consumer Internet, but in the eyes of the industry, the application of 5G in the industrial Internet will be more vigorous. "As a new generation of mobile communication technology, the object of 5G service has been connected from people to people to connect people and things, and even human and physical objects." In Xu Xiaolan's view, 5G technology has high speed, large bandwidth and low latency. The high reliability characteristics are born for the diversity of the connection of the industrial Internet, the difference in performance, and the diversification of communication.
Xu Xiaolan revealed that in the investigation of a number of head communication equipment manufacturers at the beginning of this year, enterprises have had certain consensus on the application scenarios of 5G in the future. “One is the Internet of Vehicles, and the second is the Industrial Internet. The application of 5G technology in these two aspects has become increasingly clear and mature.”
Tang Xiongyan, chief scientist and chief architect of the Intelligent Network Center of China Unicom Research Institute, said that the advantages of 5G in reliability and mobility make it possible to replace the widely used wired and WIFI networks in the industry, large bandwidth, low latency, and edge computing. The characteristics are directly related to industrial vision, AR, and VR in smart manufacturing.
Du Yeqing, the head of Huawei's 5G industry development department and vice president of the 5G industry line, also believes that connecting, collecting and analyzing data through 5G technology, and then obtaining real-time operation information of the equipment, can ultimately achieve the effects of quality improvement, efficiency improvement and cost reduction.
Pilot first 5G + machine vision or the first to land
The chemical reaction between 5G and Industrial Internet is no longer on paper. The integration and application of the two have entered the pilot stage in many industries such as chemical, machinery, steam turbine, aircraft manufacturing and electric power.
Zhang Dong, director of the Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Center of China Telecom's Ministry of Government and Enterprise, introduced the 5G pilot situation of a certain auto parts company. By deploying 5G in the factory floor, the AGV in the workshop was connected to the low-latency 5G network to realize the single. The overall handling efficiency of the body shop increased by 500 tons per day, and the efficiency of a single AGV increased by 5%. In addition, the machine tool equipment connected to the 5G network reduced the failure rate by 4% and the overall production efficiency by 3%.
In another case, a cement company faced a management problem with many branches and wide distribution. China Telecom adopted 5G+ machine vision analysis and 5G+MEC+supOS industrial operating system solutions to lay the foundation for the analysis and mining of industrial big data. Construction of a smart factory in the cement industry will increase equipment utilization by approximately 20% and unit product cost by 10% to 20%.
“China is a big consumer electronics manufacturing country. There are a lot of quality inspections in the manufacturing process of consumer electronics. At present, it is mainly based on expensive artificial or strong-end imported equipment. After 5G with large bandwidth and low latency, it passes 5G+AI+ machine. Vision can change the entire quality inspection link. This is the point where 5G+ machine vision is very capable of landing in the industry.” Chen Yurong, deputy dean of China Mobile Shanghai Industrial Research Institute also said.
There are still four contradictions in the cost problem to be solved
Although the pilot is optimistic, there are still challenges in large-scale deployment. Xu Xiaolan said that at present, the cross-border integration of 5G and industrial Internet is not enough. The application scenarios of 5G in industry are still fragmented, and the business models of the market are not clear enough.
She suggested that cross-border cooperation and supply-demand docking in the field of 5G and industrial Internet should be strengthened, pilot and demonstration of 5G business should be carried out in key areas, and a new business model of open and win-win should be actively explored.
According to Chen Yurong, deputy dean of China Mobile Shanghai Industrial Research Institute, 5G commercials also face four major contradictions: First, the tight time and heavy task conflicts, from standard to commercial deployment, currently less than one year, and 4G flowers 5 years; the second is the contradiction between maturity and high expectations. There is still a period of time for the standard, industry and terminal to mature. The third is the contradiction between investment and income. The cost of 5G base station and power consumption is about 3.5 to 4 times that of 4G. Operators need to explore business models while investing; fourth is the contradiction between traffic surge and TB.
For the cost issue, Du Yeqing, the head of Huawei's 5G industry development department and vice president of the 5G industry line, mentioned that only when 5G is heavily applied in the carrier network, the overall network cost and terminal cost can be gradually reduced, so it is necessary to experiment as early as possible. ,Gain experience.
He also mentioned that among the various roles of the industrial Internet in the future, operators, equipment manufacturers and manufacturers are very strong, but the suppliers of machine vision, AR, VR and other applications are not so strong. He suggested that support and sharing of platforms and experiences should be provided as soon as possible. (Source: Control Engineering Network)
